10/2008 - Three Sylvia Group Employees Achieve Great Accomplishments
LaShauna Barboza, Account Executive at The Sylvia Group of Insurance Agencies, recently earned the prestigious Certified WorkComp Advisor designation, conferred by the Institute of WorkComp Professionals.  The organization trains insurance professionals to locate costly errors in Workers' Compensation coverage and help business owners fight overcharges caused by mistakes in the Workers Compensation system.

Ms. Barboza says "With this certification, I now have the background and training to assist companies in gaining refunds and correcting what could become unnecessary costly mistakes.  It gives me the ability to not only spot errors, but also to work more effectively with insurance companies."

Preston Diamond, president of the Institute of WorkComp Professionals, says because Workers Compensation insurance differs from other types of insurance coverage, it is difficult to detect errors.  "Unless the insurance agent has the necessary training to locate and correct the errors in Workers Compensation coverage, the problems may go undetected and cause the business owners to pay higher premiums than required."

Jenney Fairclough and Sandra Owens, Account Managers at The Sylvia Group of Insurance Agencies, have been inducted as officers of the Bristol County Chapter of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Women (MAIW).

Ms. Fairclough is an Account Manager in the Agency's Commercial Lines department and will serve as the Assistant Director while Ms. Owens is an Account Manager in the Agency's Personal Lines department and will serve as the secretary.

The MAIW is a not-for-profit organization which serves its members by providing professional education, an environment in which it build business alliances and the opportunity to make connections with others in the insurance industry.
