The Sylvia Group of Insurance Agencies is pleased to announce that they have recently been certified as a Woman Owned Business Enterprise with the State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA). SOMWBA is an agency within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that helps to promote the development of business enterprises and non-profit organizations owned or operated by minorities and women.

Owners, Maureen Sylvia Armstrong and Beth Sylvia Caldwell represent the third generation of Sylvia’s at the agency.

Ms. Armstrong earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Marketing from the Boston College School of Management and is a Certified Insurance Counselor.  She is on the Advisory Boards of Plymouth Rock Assurance Company and Acadia Insurance Company and is a Board member and former President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Bedford.  In addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, Maureen serves on many non-profit boards within the community.

Ms. Caldwell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Connecticut's School of Business Administration and is a Certified Insurance Counselor.  Beth is chairperson of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents' Young Agents Committee and also serves on MAIA’s
Career Development Committee recruiting recent college graduates to the insurance industry.
